In early 2017, the OneTime Hunt Club decided to reach out to Wounded Warrior Project and talk to them about hosting an all expenses paid turkey hunting trip for Wounded Veterans. What started as a simple idea has turned into taking 129 Veterans over the past 8 years (2020 was eliminated due to COVID-19). Each combat injured Veteran is fully treated to 3 days of hunting, their license and permits, all meals and hotel accommodations during their stay. The purpose of the hunt is to give back and simply say "Thank You" to these heroes for their sacrifice for our country and protecting our freedoms like hunting and fishing. The testimonies from past Veteran hunters are why we continue to do this event. The Veterans come in quiet but leave with their hearts open to new possibilities and they come in as strangers and leave as family. The hunt has helped with their recovery process and gives them the chance to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. This is a very emotional event and new lifetime bonds are created by all. Our motto is perfect for this event "OneTime In The Field....A Lifetime of Memories." Each Veteran hunter will be accompanied by 2 or 3 OneTime Hunt Club guides and taken to and from the hunting locations. Each guide group provides all the necessary decoys, blinds, and any transportation needed for a successful hunt.
The Saturday afternoon of our event, we ask each hunter and guide to participate in our Clay Shooting and fish fry session. All the ammo and clays are supplied by the OneTime Hunt Club with help of the NRA Foundation Grant. This time allows all the hunters, guides, and club members to have time to relax and get to know each other. To end the event, we have a banquet where all sponsors, landowners, guides, and their families are invited to have a catered meal with the Veterans and their families. We introduce all the Veterans, announce all the sponsors, and have an open mic for anyone that would like to talk about their experiences during the hunt or even during their time in the military.
We are always looking for more sponsors, donations, and the temporary use of land. If you or someone you know might be interested in being a part of this event. Go to the Contact Us tab to see all of the ways you can reach out to us!
